How to get to Fraser Island

Manta Ray Barge

from Rainbow Beach

Manta Ray Barge is a locally owned Fraser Island barge service. Barges running daily, 365 days a year from Inskip Pt (near Rainbow Beach) to the southern tip of Fraser Island, Hook Point. The trip take approximately 10 minutes in travel time and operates daily 6.00 am – 5.30 pm. No need to book ahead, you can purchase barge tickets on the barge or alternatively you can book on Manta Ray’s website prior to travel, or call into their office at Rainbow Beach.

To drive on the island you will also require a Vehicle Access Permit from Qld Parks and Wildlife Service, which you can also purchase from the Manta Ray Barge Office or on-line at with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service or phone 13 74 68

Kingfisher Barges

from Hervey Bay

Kingfisher Barges run a barge service from River Heads (just south of Hervey Bay) to either Kingfisher Bay or Wanggoolba Creek. These barges run daily on timetables listed below and bookings are essential.
